REMEMBERING A LEGEND

Jack Murphy AKA Murf the Surf – May 26, 1937 – Sept 12, 2020

After being spared from the death penalty for his role in the JP Morgan jewel heist and the Whiskey Creek murders, Jack was given a new lease on life and released from prison in 1986, 258-years early from his original parole sentence date of 2244. For the next 34-years, Jack visited thousands of prisons worldwide, touching desperate lives with the Gospel of grace, forgiveness, and mercy. We are eternally grateful for your many years of guidance, leadership, and support freely provided to this ministry.

WE BELIEVE
IN SECOND CHANCES

God chose Moses a murder, David an adulterer, Peter a liar, Paul a persecutor of God’s children… There is hope for you.

The Encounter is a non-profit 501(c)(3) prison ministry, originally established under the name Inmate Encounter with the assistance of the Billy Graham Ministry in 1979. For over four decades, we have been dedicated to evangelizing the Lord Jesus Christ throughout Florida’s prisons, jails, juvenile centers, and streets.

GPS – Transition Guide…

GPS –Transition Guide Book 1 Fundamentals of the Faith was written by Pastor John MacArthur and published by Moody Bible. Pastor MacArthur quickly came alongside the idea of Inmate Encounter teaching Fundamentals of the Faith in jails and prisons throughout Florida under an unabridged prison version. I originally studied  Fundamentals of the Faith at my local church. We later introduced the book to Tomoka Correctional Institution here in Volusia County and have taught it for several years.
